National Commitments

Declaration signed by the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research
  • By 2027, develop a National School Feeding Programme covering 100% of basic education schools (grades 1–6), reaching about 2,500 schools and 271,000 students.
  • By 2027, assume national management of school feeding in up to 10% of the schools currently supported by the WFP School Canteens Programme, equivalent to some 250 schools.
  • By 2027, promote inter-ministerial dialogue to guarantee allocation of the resources specified in Article 7, paragraphs 1–4 of Decree-Law No. 01/2019 to the WFP School Canteens Programme, ensuring its sustainability and good performance.
  • By 2030, mobilize resources, in collaboration with partners, so that at least 10% of schools with school meal programmes are designated “Schools of Excellence,” meeting minimum standards for water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, deworming, reproductive health, accessibility, and gender sensitivity.
