Declaration signed by the Ministry of Foreign & European Affairs
On the national level:
  • Provide free school meals for all primary schoolchildren by September 2027.
  • Continue the integration of organic, seasonal, and locally produced foods into school meals, and promote short supply chains and environmentally friendly products to reduce the carbon footprint and improve food quality.
  • Foster active participation of children and youth in sustainable food system initiatives.
  • Enhance coordination among farmers' associations, academic institutions, youth organizations, and other national stakeholders to improve planning and implementation of school meal programmes.

On the international level:
  • Continue the implementation of the EU School Scheme to provide additional free fruit, vegetables, and dairy, combined with activities  aimed at teaching schoolchildren about healthy eating habits and reconnecting them to agriculture.
  • At the international level, place special emphasis on food security in Slovenia’s bilateral development and humanitarian assistance, and position school feeding as a driver for SDGs 1, 2, 4, and 5 within Slovenia’s international cooperation efforts.
  • Maintain financial support for humanitarian food aid, and contribute to school meal programmes in emergencies and fragile settings, including through Slovenian-led development projects involving national experts.
