School Meals Coalition Event

2nd Ministerial Task Force Meeting of the School Meals Coalition

29 Oct 2024

The Government of Kenya hosted the second Ministerial Meeting of the School Meals Coalition Taskforce in Nairobi, bringing together the Task Force, which was the body of the Coalition, to advance the mission of ensuring every child had access to a nutritious meal in school by 2030.

H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, delivered the keynote address, furthering Kenya’s commitment to scaling school meals to reach 10 million children by 2030. This initiative aligned with Kenya’s recent launch of the National School Meals Coalition and the release of a new 'Operational Plan' for the scale-up of the National School Meals Programme to universal coverage.

National chapter launch Kenya

This 2nd ministerial meeting coincides with the announcment made earlier this month by Kenya's Ministry of Education marking the launch of Kenya’s National School Meals Coalition and the release of a new ‘Operational Plan’ for the scale-up of the School Meals Programme (SMP) to universal coverage. The establishment of a National School Meals Coalition fulfils one of the commitments that Kenya made at the launch of the global School Meals Coalition at the United Nations Food Systems Summit in September 2021 during the UN General Assembly.  Learn more about the launch of the National School Meals Coalition and Operational Plan.
